Chinese & Japanese Brush Painting
Ms. Chamberlain has been fascinated with Chinese and Japanese brush painting throughout her life. She found her first teachers in Japan, and continued her studies in the US under the famous Taiwanese painter, Mrs. Ichen Wu, with whom she worked for six years in Fremont, California.
Ms. Chamberlain finds the process of brush painting to be both a challenging and rewarding form of artistic expression. It is a style that requires complete control—every brush stroke and angle, arm movement, and breath is calculated—as a result, she must work with her entire body in harmony. However, she states that, “from the moment I pick up the brush, to the moment I complete the composition… it is pure joy.” Further, Ms. Chamberlain admires the symbolism and stories that are told through each painting. She believes that a brush painting can “take a story of daily life, and elevate it into the spiritual.”
