The Creative Process ::
Ms. Chamberlain finds that she is most creative when she is constantly stimulated. It is her belief that “when you stop being stimulated, you stop perceiving.” Because of this, she is continuously bringing change into her creative process. She often plays with the environment of her studio by adjusting things like lighting, music, and the time of day in which she chooses to work.
It is always important for Ms. Chamberlain to keep a fresh visual perspective. She is able to do this by working with the model in various locations, as well as shifting the angle and level in which she views a pose. This shifting allows her to learn new information about her model’s body.
Further, the way she interprets her model’s body is essential to her sculpting process. She initially works just to understand bone structure, and focuses her attention on the way the bones align and angle themselves. Only after this stage of the sculpture is complete, can she add muscle and precise detail to the figure.
It is Ms. Chamberlain’s commitment to change, and drive to capture more than what can be seen on the surface, which makes her sculptures so unique and beautiful. |
